Thankful Through The STorm

7/14/2016

Job 1-3
When I sit back and think about the issues in my life, I can truly be thankful to God. Not because everything is perfect but because God sustains me through them. Bills still pile up, health is not what it should be, people still talk behind my back, and the list goes on and on.
In the book of Job we find a man with alot of problems of which mine seem so little by comparison, but one thing the scripture says is that in all of those things he did not sin. Wow, because that is not always me.
Yes he did get discouraged even to the point that he asked God is he was born only to be miserable. My take away from the first 3 chapters of Job is that we can Praise through the storm, because our Praise-worship-trust in God is not external it is internal.
When the heart is weak Praise, when the soul is drained worship, and when in doubt trust.
Be blessed, Pastor D

When you need something new.

One of the realist revelations I ever received from the Lord was talking to the Him (more like complaining) about my time in a spiritual desert.

I wanted something new, I needed something new but I was in a spiritual wilderness and desert. Then God spoke:

You can't get a river in the desert unless you are in the desert and you can't get a roadway in the wilderness unless you are in the wilderness.

Ouch, not quite what I wanted to hear but what I needed to hear. You see my miracle was coming but it came by way of the desert place because I couldn't accept the new until I was tired of the old.

Be blessed today, Pastor D.

each morning new

usWe are now a few days into a new year and with every new year comes with it new possibilities, new hopes, new challenges, and new blessing. For many this is a chance to start fresh-with a clean slate. People have begun the process of trying to fulfill their New Years Resolutions.

A resolution can be defined as a firm decision to do or not to do something.

New Years Resolutions begin with the want or desire to do something different and turns into us not doing all that we set out to do. So what ends up happening is we start the year with hope and end the year discouraged because perhaps we didn't fulfill everything we wanted; all the while saying next year will be different.

Lamentations 3:22-23 (NKJV)
22 Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not.
23 They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness

My challenge for you is to make the "next year will be different" frame of mind into each day instead of each year. Make each morning new because scripture tells us that even though we may fail or fall ever so short-God's love and compassion for doesn't fail or fall short.

As a matter of fact they are renewed each morning. What that tells me is that His love for you grows with each passing day. So my challenge for you is to make 2016 not just a new year, but a new day-each day. Each day will carry new possibilities, now hopes, new, challenges, new victories, and new blessing.

Serving God because He served me first,

The Year of Break Through

As we have begun a journey into 2015, hope for the future and new beginnings dominate our thoughts as we make Resolutions to be better, eat healthier, be more positive to name a few. As I hear people discuss their goals, I am reminded of a story found in Mark 5:25-34 about a woman who had been sick for 12 years.

The verses here tell us that she spent all that she had with no real positive results. She tried everything to get better and lost everything in the process. For 12 years she went to doctors, friends, healers, the church, and probably even tried home remedies and still nothing.

She just learned to live with it. It had become so apart of her that she probably couldn't even remember what it was like to live without it. Then one day she heard that Jesus was coming to town. "Could this be that Jesus that I have heard people talk about in the market? The One who performs miracles for people? I heard about how He calmed the storm on the sea the other day and how he turned water into wine and gave sight to the blind-could He do something for me?"

This was a woman at the end of her rope and probably felt that this was her last chance-if this doesn't work, then nothing will. So she gathered whatever strength she could muster and braved the crowds as they pushed and shoved with the hopes of at least seeing Jesus. She however, felt that looking at Him wasn't enough, "I have to meet Him, see Him, touch Him and beg Him to heal me! I hope and pray He will, but why would He I'm insignificant and nobody cares whether I live or die."

She soldiered on. She wasn't strong enough and was knocked down by those around her. At this time she had a choice to make, "I could either stay here and let this final chance slip away or I could fight and crawl on my knees towards my only hope."

What resilience and courage it must have taken for her to choose the latter! As she fights through the crowds-there He is! I see His 12 disciples protecting Him and trying to keep people from physically overpowering and overwhelming Him. The crowds are reaching out and calling out to Him, "Heal me I am blind, no heal me I am deaf, I have a sick child, bless my home" and so on. They were all grabbing at Him, when this woman on here hands and knees, as she fights through the crowds and fights the voices of past failures and defeats realizes that she will not get close enough to be face to face or shake His hand with one last ditch effort lunges forward; with the mindset that "If I could just touch the hem of His garment, maybe just maybe I will be healed. Yes, I believe it, I know it-just the hem of the HIM is all I need to change my life forever."

That last push, that last ounce of strength she touches the bottom of Jesus clothes. Jesus felt a familiar surge of power leave His body and asked who touched me. The 12 said everybody is touching you, they are all reaching and grabbing for you-but Jesus said, "No this touch was different."

The woman, now with a new found strength, was able to stand up and come forward and tell Jesus that it was her. She was healed, made whole, her past was wiped clean, she can start anew with a fresh life!

Her story is not unlike the story of many. Your past and those things in your life that have been a "sickness" to you for many years have prevented you from moving forward, growing, or getting "better". Perhaps you have been knocked down and forgotten about by those most trusted and you feel that even God may have forgotten about you.

Well, I am here to tell you that He hasn't forgotten you-He wants to heal you and wipe away the past just like this woman. It was her faith that allowed her to breakthrough. It wasn't a strong religious faith- it was a faith that said "only Jesus can do this for me."
Gather the strength, press forward, and reach for Jesus-your breakthrough awaits.

Be Blessed,
Pastor D.

The Waters are Stirring

9/10/2013

John 5:4
For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease he had.

All through out scripture, there are different instances where there were stirring(s) of water. In each case something tremendous happened.

The Red Sea split and the Israelite's went through unscathed, not to mention those who meant to do harm were dealt with in one swift blow of GOD's delivering greatness.
What about water from the rock in the desert?  A place that is dry and often times lifeless now yielded water, the essence and nourishment to life, from the most unlikely of sources.
In the Pool of Bethesda, an angel, stirred the waters for somebody to receive a complete and utterly unexplained miracle.

What are you going through that requires deliverance, possibly the magnitude that the Israelites' received or are things dry  and lifeless? Perhaps you just  need an unexplained miracle where the only possible explanation is that it is an act of a loving GOD.

No matter what your situation is, the Lord is beginning to stir the waters for you; your miracle is coming, your deliverance is at hand and new life is springing forth.

Be blessed,
Pastor D.

Jesus, the reason for the season

12/16/2012

As Mary was about to give birth to Jesus, a decree had gone forth to take a census of the Jews. During this time, God’s people had been in bondage to Rome and lived under a heavy hand. Hopelessness and despair was more normal than faith and hope. Hearts were failing to discouragement and fear and Israel needed something new in their lives to turn the negative into positive.

This also happens to be the same sentiment for today. People walk around aimlessly struggling to just exist. There is apathy and fear and discouragement that rules their daily lives. Financial problems, relationship problems, emotional issues, where does it end?

Fresh off of tragedy after tragedy, people are looking for hope. The great news is that a loving GOD sent His Son to this world to be that hope.

I am reminded of the verses in Luke 2:1-14
In this verse I see an encouraging message to people that I can only sum up in 3 ways:

1) Jesus quiets our fears-a matter of security
2) God gives you a sign-a matter of assurance
3) All of heaven is on your side-a matter of acceptance

As we are fed fear and despair, Jesus is still in the business of giving people a sense of security that can only come from the creator of the universe.

If you are feeling down or if you are feeling "up", look to Jesus. He came for you as a result of love.

GOD's Five Tool Player

6/18/2012

In baseball, a five-tool player is one who excels at hitting for average, hitting for power, base running skills and speed, throwing ability, and fielding abilities. Among their peers, they are the best of the best. Perhaps they practiced more or maybe they have a stronger desire than others; whatever the case, every player has the same opportunity to bring these skills to the table. As a believer in CHRIST, there are five tools that every Christian must have. At True Vine, I speak periodically about 5 basics that every Believer should walk in. These five essentials have been the staple to my walk over the years. It is what has sustained me through difficult times. As I’ve obeyed GOD in these areas, the Lord has seen fit to prosper me in my spiritual life and in every other area of my life as well. Do you want the most of your walk with GOD? Take these five tools apply them and be faithful to GOD through them and see where GOD takes you. Become GOD’s AllStar by becoming a five tool player.

1.       Go to church faithfully

2.       Develop a heart to Praise and Worship GOD

3.       Pray constantly

4.       Dive into God’s Word

5.       Give tithe’s and offerings faithfully

Start the New Year right!

1/3/2012

As people prepare for the New Year, they often times use it as an opportunity to reflect on the year that just past and look forward with optimism to what lies ahead. Others don’t look with the same certainty. Perhaps you fall into one of these 2 categories and perhaps you don’t, but either way it is important to keep your eyes focused on the LORD. With Resolutions made and broken from times past, create a new list for this year.

I am reminded of a scripture in the Bible that says “Weeping may endure for the night, but joy comes in the morning.”

New Years Eve ends at (mid) night. With the tick of a hand on the clock time moves forward as we pass from one year to the next. All that said, the old year ends at night and the morning of not only a New Day, but a New Year begins and joy can come into your life. With that tick 2011 became the past and 2012 became the future.

The worst thing a person can do is carry that past with all of its hurts, pains, and fears. Instead choose to look to the future. The book of Jeremiah says the “GOD has a plan for you that has a future and hope.”

You may feel down and out but GOD says you are up and in. Think on the good things of the LORD with what HE has blessed you with, not on what you don’t have.

Start the year out right

What is GOD speaking to you? What do you need to correct in your life?

Be blessed, Pastor D.

Holiday Gifts

12/17/2011

As I sit here in my office contemplating the season we are in, I am reminded of Christmas times past. I truly believe that (at least for me) I learned the meaning of love and giving. Not necessarily because of the giving of presents because growing up there were some Christmas’s where gifts were a little hard to come by. I am talking about the joy it would bring to my heart even as a child to see the smiles of friends and family members who received their gifts with great expectancy. Don’t get me wrong, I would feel a little sad at the same time, when it seemed like we had nothing and others had so much; at times even angry wishing I had more. Yet at the end of the day I was over it and ready to enjoy the singing and hot chocolate.

As a child, I didn’t know anything about JESUS birth and the true reason for the season we celebrated. I knew the story of his birth but not the meaning. One day, which also happened to be one of the first times I went to a Christian church, I was taken to a Christmas service where we learn about the not just a baby in a manger but the reason this baby came.

The thing I kept thinking about was this baby JESUS was like me in the sense of Him not having much yet people were happy. I understood that! I understood how you can have so little and yet be so happy; what I did not understand was why. Jesus was born under extreme circumstances in humble surroundings and lived a simple life. Yet HE did something that I could never do. He died for all mankind!! His beginnings were a picture of HIS ending, humble, extreme, yet glorious.

I was in my mid teens when I feel like I finally got it, the message that is. Those times when I didn’t get what I wanted, as much as I wanted, or whatever the case was, all along I had the greatest gift of all waiting on me to accept HIM. It took a few more years until I finally did.

You have so many gifts that the LORD has given you. It does no good to focus on what we don’t have instead be thankful for what you do have. Breathe for this life and eternity for the next. GOD has blessed you with more than you know. HE has a plan for your life! Remember what Matthew 6:33 says, “Seek first the kingdom of GOD and HIS righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

Be blessed this holiday season, you already are!!

The End of Your Rope

3/29/2011

Hello Friend,
I am new to blogging so please bear with me.
(This blog is an excerpt from a sermon I preached last month with the same name.)
How many of you have ever felt like you are at the end of your rope?

Psalm 61:2 -When David was at the end of his rope, down to his last gasp, feeling down & struggling to cope with life - He cried out to God for direction, the One He acknowledged as being ‘higher’ than himself, above all his disappointments & troubles. The God who is above all other names!! The God who is above depression, discouragement, doubt, fear & loneliness. Above sickness, disease & the powers of death!

God desires to lead you to that same towering rock of safety! That place of security, protection & shelter.

When you are overwhelmed it is easy to ‘…jump to the conclusion that God isn’t on the job.’
We’ve all experienced times of weakness where we doubted if God was even aware of our situation.

Holding on to our faith can be both a trial and chore at the same time. With all that comes against us, the path of least resistance is to loose focus and loose faith.

But just as Peter reached out to JESUS with dear life as he was sinking in the water, so we do to our Saviour as well. JESUS will do the same to us reach back and keep us from drowning.

Always remember, adversity serves a purpose; it teaches us to cry out to GOD and stretches our faith. The more your faith stretches, the more it covers.

When we don’t understand what life brings our way, when we can’t answer the question ‘why’, God spurs us on to hold on to our faith…to keep our confidence & faith in Him…to trust & believe that God still on the throne!

Be blessed, Pastor D.
